Free Redirect Rule Tester

Paste your redirect rules, list some URLs and see the destination and the full chain for each, without touching a live server.

Free, with no sign-up. Fair-use limits apply. Text you paste is processed and not stored. To enforce the limits we keep any domain or address you enter and a scrambled form of your IP address for 30 days, as described in our privacy policy.

Why test rules on paper first

Redirect rules interact. A broad pattern can catch pages you meant to leave alone, and two sensible rules can chain into a loop. Testing the rules against a list of real URLs finds those problems before your visitors do.

How to use it

Paste the rules in the format old new [code], one per line, with a tilde at the start of a line for a regular expression. Then list the addresses to try. For each one you get the chain of hops, the status code of each hop and the final address, and loops are flagged.

What good looks like

Every old address should reach its final page in one hop with a permanent status code. If you see two hops, change the first rule to point at the final page.

Frequently asked questions

Does this test my live server?

No. It applies the rules you paste. To check what a live URL actually does, use the bulk URL checker.

Are regular expressions supported?

Yes. Start a line with a tilde and write a regular expression for the old path. Capture groups can be used in the new address.

What if a rule matches nothing?

The URL is reported as unchanged, which is what a server would do.
