What IndexNow is
IndexNow lets a site tell participating search engines immediately when pages are added, changed or removed, instead of waiting for them to be recrawled. It is supported by Bing and others. Google does not use it.
How to use it
Enter your domain and press Generate key. You get a random key and the name and contents of the text file to upload to the root of your site. The file proves you control the domain.
After uploading
Once the file is live, submit changed addresses to the IndexNow endpoint from your publishing system. An account can also submit URLs directly from the dashboard. Keep a healthy sitemap with the sitemap generator.
Frequently asked questions
Is the key a secret?
No. The key file is public by design. It only proves ownership.
Can I change the key later?
Yes. Generate a new one and upload the new file.
Does it speed up Google?
No. Google does not participate in IndexNow. Use sitemaps and Search Console for Google.
